Battery Park Playground

Battery Park is a great place to watch the boats go by as the kids get their wiggles out on the playground.

The plentiful equipment is located in a sandy play area that is relatively clean and free of debris. There are slides, swings (including a mommy-and-me swing) and plenty of fun climbing structures. Situated under a huge live oak tree, the ample green space in the park square is well-shaded. The huge green space is large enough for a soccer or football game, so if you've got that equipment, bring it along. There is enough room to make great use of it here! The playground itself, however, is not shaded, except for a few palm trees, so make sure to bring sun protection.

Apalachicola hosts an annual seafood festival and there is a giant lounge chair advertising in that makes for a great photo op and climbing structure. If the kids are interested in checking out the boats, you can walk across the street and stroll along the docks of the marina down to a nice gazebo overlooking the water.

Parking is readily available around the square, or you can park downtown and walk to the park in about five minutes. Although the sidewalks are scarce, so is the traffic. There are no nearby restrooms, but there are large public restrooms downtown. A few picnic tables are available adjacent to the playground and it makes a great place for a picnic lunch. In the summer be prepared for humidity and bugs, especially later in the day into evening.
