A community hub with a playground and sports fields!

Billy Gene Jackson Sr. Park (formerly North Lake Park) is truly a hub for the Salisbury community. Situated next to the Salvation Army’s Richard Hazel Youth Center, you’ll find kids engaged in youth sports and other community activities all year round here.

The park features a new playground with lots of unique climbing structures as well as slides and balancing features on a mulch ground surface. While we love this playground for older kids (think those kids that can independently climb more advanced ladders and climbing walls), it may not be the best choice for toddlers. Given the lack of smaller play structures and the fact that the park remains fairly busy, little ones may have more difficulty safely accessing the equipment.

However, if you’re nearby with a toddler that needs to expel some energy, you’re in luck. The park has ample room to run around and even has a walking trail that leads to a small beach area with a fishing pier.

If it’s sports you’re looking for. Billy Gene Jackson Park has you covered. Visitors will find a softball field, basketball courts, as well as tennis courts that can double as pickleball courts. All of the fields and courts are lighted. Be aware that these fields are often used for youth sports leagues so they may not be available on weekends in-season.

The park also features a concession stand (for use during youth sports games) as well as restroom facilities. Visitors will also find covered picnic tables for lunch or a snack. Leashed pets are welcome (don’t forget to clean up after Fido, though!)

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
