Carolina Beach State Park is a perfect family-friendly road trip destination.

This popular 761 acre park is located along the beautiful Cape Fear River.  You should stop by the Visitors Center on your way in to map out your visit and the rangers often host educational programs that you won’t want to miss.  Wilmington is home to the Venus Flytrap, native to the Wilmington area and a pretty cool plant because it’s a carnivore.  The park has nine miles of biking and hiking trails, one is the Venus Flytrap Trail.  You can rent kayaks and paddleboards, fish, hike, run, camp and more.  Campsites are canopied beneath towering trees.  Cabins have double beds, bunk beds, heat/AC, electricity and sleep up to 6 people per cabin.

There is also a marina, so you can drive your boat right up!
