Civic Green Park has it all!
If you're looking for the perfect spot this summer, Civic Green Park in Highlands Ranch is it! This expansive playground has something for everyone and is wonderful when it is too hot to go to other playgrounds.
First, Civic Green Park has multiple water features to enjoy! The most obvious is the checkerboard-looking splash pad in front of the large amphitheater. There are many tables to sit at close by or, bring along a picnic, and spread out your towels on the large grass field. There is also a fountain area closer to the playground if your child likes a more playful amount of water (the larger splash pad sends water straight up with more force). Finally, there is a more natural water feature which was the hit for our family - the creek! The kids are able to wade through the creek, go under bridges and climb over the small waterfalls. There is a lot of running from one place to the next, along with some rocky areas, so good water shoes would be helpful.
Civic Green Park is also well known in the area for its giant book statues. The park is next to the Highlands Ranch Library so it is wonderfully fitting that there are beloved kid books (Charlotte's Web, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and Frog and Toad) that you can walk inside. Another "bookish" feature of the park are the sight words lining the playground sidewalk. What a fun way to practice reading as you jump from word to word!
The playground is exciting with a giant rope climber, a circular spinner and an unconventional play structure. And if you're looking for a more peaceful spot, the garden areas are gorgeous! Beautiful columbines of multiple colors can be found and local artists have sculptures displayed.
Tip: Call the Highlands Ranch Library first to see if there are any outdoor storytimes planned and schedule your park trip to go with it! There are restroom facilities and so many great picnic spots, you can make it a full day there. Just don't forget your sunscreen!
