Playgrounds, hiking, biking, picnic areas, athletic fields, and more at this park.

Colonel Francis Beatty Park is 265 acres of hiking, biking, playgrounds, athletic fields, lake, and rentable hall. There are 2 playgrounds suitable for various ages with slides, climbing, and swings. There are restrooms near parks. The walking path goes by the lake for some enjoyable views. You can access the lake by canoe or kayak near the hall. There are several locations you can fish at.

This park has walking paths, which are paved and great for strollers, bikes, and scooters. Then there are hiking and biking trails in the park. You could easily hike/bike over 12 miles in all the trails and loops. The Park loop is around 4.5 miles and is easy hiking or biking. Be aware that hikers walk one direction and bikers ride another, so make sure you are going in the right direction before you begin. There is a new pump track for the bike enthusiast in your family.

Do note that during heavy rains the trail becomes really muddy, so wear old shoes on those days. During those summer months bring bug spray for walking in the trails. The area is very shaded plus water near by can equal a buggy environment.

Col. Francis Betty Park is often a place for photography. With great natural lighting, scenic views, and beautiful landscape, you will see photographers around shooting portraits.

This is a great park to come hike, play, and relax. Once your done playing, check out some local eats and treats in downtown Matthews.
