Playground along Mount Vernon Trail conveniently located for beautiful stroller runs!

Just a short distance from GW Parkway and along the Mount Vernon Trail, this quiet neighborhood favorite in Alexandria, Virginia, offers multiple little league fields, basketball and tennis courts as well as the small playground itself. The playground has one regular sized playground with slides, swings, and climbing features. there is a shaded picnic area perfect for having lunch and relaxing while the little ones run around.

Probably the most attractive feature for a racquet sport-loving family is the two-sided backboard, which provides valuable entertainment for tennis players of any level, and serves as an excellent tool to familiarize young children with the fundamentals of the sport. If you aren't a tennis family, you can bring a soccer ball or a frisbee to get some exercise.

This location is a bit farther down GW, but the approximately five-mile distance down the Mount Vernon Trail to George Washington’s primary home makes it a great option for a running or biking adventure before or after checking out the park itself.

Additionally, take a stroller run less than a mile north on the trail to River Farm Estate, the northernmost of five farms once owned by George Washington along the Potomac. It is a lovely place to wander, both the house and the grounds, and an excellent choice to enjoy a picnic with mature trees and areas of shade, unlike at Collingwood Park itself.

Grab takeout for a picnic at The Haven on Belle Haven Road, right on the way, or stop on the way back through!
