Hidden Playground with a Zipline!

Did you know there is an amazing playground just blocks away from the Paul Derda Recreation Center? We were delighted to find that if you drive east from Lowell, there was a hidden playground that my girls absolutely loved!

Cottonwood Park’s playground cannot be seen from where you park (either along Westlake Drive or King Circle). You’ll have to trust me and start walking. The greenbelt through this Broomfield neighborhood is beautiful with huge trees and a small creek running along the path and about halfway down the path, you will find the playground.

The first thing my daughters noticed…the zipline! This has quickly become their favorite park element and I am grateful to have found a less crowded option for the next time they ask. In addition to the zipline, there is also a fun green and purple colored two-story play structure with a high open slide and low straight slide. There are a variety of ways to climb up to the top making it a perfect spot for a game of tag.

Cottonwood Park also has two seated spinners and swings (2 traditional belt swings and 2 baby swings).

Things to Note: The playground is covered with wood chips and no bathroom available. There is a HUGE tree providing shade over the structure and picnic tables so pack some snacks and enjoy!

Want to extend your playtime? Check out the nearby McKay Lake nature play area with its huge log structures, hillside slides and tunnels to run through.

Or, as mentioned above, the Paul Derda Recreation Center is just minutes away and the perfect spot to visit. There is a cost, but the pool is incredible with a child play area and tube slides for a thrill. Inside the Rec Center is also an adorable Colorado outdoors-themed indoor playground.
