Museum is open late March to mid-November. (Check the website for exact dates). Wednesday and Saturday: 11:00 am to 4:00 pm; Sunday: 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Tours begin every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.

The Dr. Mudd House is a must see for history lovers. The house is notable as the place where John Wilkes Booth went to receive medical care after his assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

The house has been in the Mudd family since Dr. Samual Mudd and his wife lived there in the mid-19th century and was donated in the late 20th century to be kept as a museum for the public to view.

Visitors can take a guided tour to hear the story of John Wilkes Booth as well as Dr. Mudd and see the bed and couch where Booth actually received treatment.

The tour is best for older kids (think 8 and up) as it is heavy in information and lasts approximately 30 minutes. The information is interesting, even for those that are not history buffs, but will obviously be most enjoyable to those kids that enjoy learning about the past. That being said, we took our 5 and 7 year-old daughters on the tour and the guide did an excellent job of making it as interesting as possible for them. 

There is no food on site but visitors can enjoy a picnic from home at the tables that overlook the rolling hills of southern Maryland.
