Drive through the Mojave and Shadow Valley to experience incredible desert views.
If you’re looking for a road trip route that includes driving through one of the largest and highest density Joshua Tree forests in the world, add Shadow Valley to your route. Take in the sight of these beautiful trees and the Cima Dome in the distance. There will be a few options to get back onto I-15 from this short stretch, but we recommend ignoring them and continuing your journey.
You’ll ultimately want to hop off I-15 and head towards Cima, where you can either drive out and back through the forest of Joshua Trees or continue on Kelbaker Road and come back out to I-15 at Barstow. Don’t forget to bring tons of water, food, and fuel on any drive through the Mojave Desert, as there are limited resources available.

Directions Note: About 26 miles east of Baker, Calif., the paved Cima Road connects I-15 with Cima, Calif., 16 miles to the southeast.
