The Central Branch is back up and running!!
If you’re a Baltimore resident, you know that the Central Branch of the library has just finished a massive renovation that’s been years in the making. We’ve heard about the changes for so long, we couldn’t wait to check out the new digs. The wait was worth it.
You’ll be wowed before you even walk in the door with the stately (and huge) exterior that greets you on Cathedral Street. The interior is just as astounding with beautiful architecture and a truly massive collection of books and media. If you’re there with kids, you’ll want to head back towards the left corner and follow the stairway or elevator down to the children’s section (follow the fish if you can’t find your way!).
The children’s area continues to impress with a beautiful mermaid mosaic and even a fountain with real fish in it! Kids can take advantage of a huge collection of books but also spend some time playing with toys in the mini Central Branch replica.
What we love about the children’s area at the Central Branch is that it’s separated from the main area of the library. That means that kids be kids without you having to worry that you’re disturbing the peace of the other library patrons.
There is paid street parking as well as garage parking at 15 W Franklin Street, just a couple blocks from the library. As with most libraries, no food or drink is allowed but you can grab a pizza at Homeslyce when you’re done at the branch!
