George Washington's Mount Vernon Makes for an Educational, Historical, Fun Field Trip in Virginia!

George Washington's estate is a popular destination for all ages. From the mansion tour, grounds and gardens, the Distillery and Gristmill, Pioneer Farm and the remarkable Museum and Education Center it would be a challenge to see everything in one visit, especially when you take the time to interact with characters and tour all the mansion outbuildings. We've spent long afternoons here and also just stopped in for short visits with specific areas in mind, the latter of which are especially convenient for members.

While the lines for the mansion tour can get long during the peak season, the fall quiets down significantly and we practically had the place to ourselves on a recent visit. We hiked the property and burned some energy before taking in the Be Washington Interactive Theater, an experience that runs continuously from 9am - 4pm and proved a big hit with all ages in our group. We followed up there with a visit to the education center where we completed an arts and crafts program that began at 3pm. There is also an Adventure Map for families to take with them as the tour the estate, which we look forward to picking up on our next visit.

There are so many ways to enjoy Mount Vernon and the welcoming staff is informed and always happy to help personalize your visit to your particular needs and available time on any given day.

One of our favorite kids friendly restaurants, El Paso, is very nearby and always puts a smile on everyones faces. Their large portions will be perfect after a long day wander the Mount Vernon grounds.
