A great place to let some energy loose, walk, picnic and enjoy the playground!
Green Hills Park is set on 12 acres within the heart of the Green Hills Neighborhood. It’s a less-trafficked park (except when there are baseball games on the three baseball fields in the southeast corner of the acreage) than its popular neighbor, Sevier Park, but it’s got some great features and is worth a stop for an afternoon if you're in the Green Hills neighborhood. However, during sunny days, shade is hard to come by so bring hats and sunscreen.
The playground is relatively new and very clean, and there’s a picnic shelter, climbing tower, and rock wall nearby. Note: The picnic area is available on a first-come, first-served basis and the Parks Dept. does not take reservations.
There's a paved path that circles the park, which provides a nice, smooth trail for strollers, bikes, scooters, and more. There are also a few blacktop tennis courts.
Not to be missed is a tree located near the southeast corner of the J.T. Moore campus (public middle school) that is estimated to be well over 200 years old. It won the 1992 Big Old Tree Contest and at that time had a 205-inch circumference, and was 80 feet high with an 81-foot crown spread.
