Camp in the Appalachians to experience a variety of activities for nature lovers!
Greenbrier is a multi-use park located in Maryland’s Appalachian Mountains. The park offers 165 camping sites for tent and RV camping (40 sites have electrical hook-ups). The sites are available to reserve from early April through late October. The sites are spread between 4 camping loops that are fairly densely populated. It’s best to book early if you’d like to reserve one of the more isolated sites.
The real standout at Greenbrier is the beach. The park features a 42-acre man-made lake with plenty of sandy beaches for visitors. The water is fairly shallow and the absence of waves makes it a great spot for even the littlest swimmers. Visitors can also rent rowboats and paddle boats in the summer. The lake area offers changing areas, bathrooms, and a boathouse with snacks, food and Italian ice. As with most beach areas, Greenbrier can fill to capacity when the weather is nice. Arrive early to ensure entry.
There is some hiking available at Greenbrier but the majority of the trails are considered moderate to difficult. If you’ve got energetic hikers, the Big Red Trail runs along the lake (opposite the beach) and will take you to a small stream where the kiddos can play.
