Take in scenic views from the French Broad River Greenway.
The Hominy Creek River Park is one of the 3 sections of the French Broad River Greenway, and is often the quietest. Starting at the parking lot on Hominy Road, this paved path will lead you along side the French Broad River (adjacent to the Biltmore Estate’s property) to the Asheville Outdoor Center and RiverFront Campground. After about 1 mile the River Park section will end at the campground and switch to a private path owned by the campground, walkers and joggers are welcome to continue on but please respect the campers privacy and stay on the marked trail. Follow the sidewalk beside Amboy Road for .3 miles and the Greenway will continue through to Carrier Park. A simple out and back from the parking lot to the campground will be roughly 2 miles roundtrip, but many different longer options can be made by continuing into Carrier Park!
The Hominy Creek River Park is open during daylight hours and has many shaded picnic tables and grills set up near the parking lot, but no bathroom facilities. There are also steps into the French Broad for river access for kayaks, canoes, and tubers. Walkers, joggers, and bikers all share the same path and leashed dogs are always welcomed and abundant! There is a small paved lot close to the gates but plenty of parking along the road that is graveled. Beautiful weekend days are the busiest, parking may be a little more difficult but never impossible.
Some road noise is expected along the trail as it passes under the interstate and also along Amboy, but the convenience of access makes up for this con!
Please note that during periods of prolonged heavy rains the path may be under water in areas or closed from the river topping. If the gates are closed please heed the warnings and use caution.
