Go trail riding Nashville at Juro!
It's about a 30-minute drive to Mount Juliet and they offer group lessons as well as private rides. We opted for a private lesson.
We arrived and checked in about 10 minutes before our ride and promptly mounted our horses. They were very well behaved, and I felt really comfortable letting both my 4-year-old and 6-year-old ride by themselves. We brought our own bike helmets and wore them (though they are not required).
We chose an hour-long ride that was mostly shaded amongst trees and a few creeks, though we did ride through a couple of open pastures. Our horses walked the whole time (I'm sure experienced riders could have trotted but it was my 4-year-old's first time to ride by herself). The landscape was wooded but nothing jaw-dropping, but it was good to be outside on a horse. At one point, my 4-year-olds horse was not keeping up and so our guide tied a lead from her horse to my daughters to ensure we stayed together on the trail.
Tips: wear long pants, leave most everything in your car (besides your keys). Guides work off tips so plan accordingly. The farm has several gorgeous peacocks running around so look for them.
Note that in Tennessee, by law, riders ride at their own risk.
