Cardiff 101
Distance: 3(+) miles
Level: Moderate
This straight shot along the coast will leave you wanting for more of Encinitas, and there is so much more for you to discover. This route starts you at Swami’s parking lot and takes you south towards San Elijo State Beach along the coastline for a distance of 3 miles but you can easily continue in either direction to add more tread. Parking here is free with plenty of street parking as well. Heading south, you’ll be greeted with immediate sweeping ocean views to your left. Wave hello to the iconic “Kook statue” as you pass by and see what crazy outfit he’s got on that day! The 101 “highway” will continue next to you the entire way, but don’t let the word “highway” fool you, it is a historic route and pretty mellow. Pathways for bicycles and pedestrians are very clearly labeled.
Looking to fuel up before or after your run? Some Swami favorites are Goodonya, Surfdogs Java Hut and Cardiff musts are VG Donuts (best in San Diego!), Sambazon and Best Pizza & Brew. Stretching both your and your little ones' toes afterward at the beach is always a fun idea, but a great nearby park is Cardiff is Glen Park. If you’re ending back up near Swami’s parking lot, don’t miss out on visiting international renowned Meditation Gardens literally down the street!
