Year-Round Family Fun in Reston at Lake Fairfax.

Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia provides for a variety of fun activities and beautiful scenery. It has amazing access to the city of DC as well as the lovely outdoor adventures that abound in this beautiful area.

This expansive park contains plenty of seasonal elements in addition to year-round activities. With athletic fields, boat rentals, hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, a skate park, mountain biking and a carousel there is much to do, not to mention the kid heaven at the Water Mine Swimmin' Hole water park. The carousel, boat rentals, and water park are open Memorial Day through Labor Day, but the rest of the park features and special events are available year-round.

If you visit in the warmer months you'll probably see turtles, fish, and ducks in the lake and other wildlife if you choose to go for a hike from the park. There is a covered area that is a perfect picnic spot near the lake to finish off your outdoor exploration.

The 9.3 mile Lake Fairfax Park Loop is accessible year-round. It is leashed dog and mountain bike-friendly. While it can be moderately difficult at points, overall it is very manageable. Be aware it can be flooded or very muddy at spots after heavy rains, so be prepared to navigate those spots. Come prepared with proper footwear if you know a lot of rain has come through the area recently.

Colvin Run Mill and Roer's Zoofari are very fun family-friendly attractions really close by, and Founding Farmers and Ted's Bulletin Reston are both less than ten minutes away. Glory Days Grill is closer to five and they have a great kids' menu.  All of the restaurants are kid-friendly and offer a variety of food options that will be enjoyed by all ages and can be picked up if you'd rather bring it to the park for a picnic.

Reston Farm Market is just minutes away as well if you are looking for a fun fall festival for the little ones in the area!
