Lake Minnewashta Regional Park is one of the most beautiful parks we've visited in the Twin Cities.

When I say this park has it all, I truly mean it. It's huge, and it's really, really scenic, plus it has a ton of amenities. Here you'll find 340 acres of pure bliss. I told the girls upon leaving that this park had all three of our favorite things...for them, it meant a very large, quality playground, and for me, it meant acres and acres of nature to enjoy. You don't often find the wonderful combination of both in the same park. But at this magical place, you sure do.

There are amenities here for all seasons. They offer a boat launch and canoe space rentals for summertime. There's a gorgeous 5-mile trail system, though it's a natural trail, so it's not paved. Minnewashta also offers a popular dog off-leash area for four-legged friends. Picnic tables are plentiful throughout the park, and I'm pleased to say there's excellent tree cover throughout the park for shade when you need a break (yes, I find this super important as a mom). There are cross-country ski trails that are free to ski, and tons of excellent sledding hills of all shapes and sizes. There's a fishing pier for summer, as well as a gorgeous beach, and even a Little Free Library for all seasons.

We had a blast at the amazing playground atop the hill here. There were several sets of all different sorts of playground equipment for the kids, and they definitely did not get to a point of being 'bored' with what was here...I definitely had to pry them away! The playground sits atop a few hills, so right when I saw it, I knew it was the perfect spot for some sledding, and the girls were thrilled! From the playground, you can also see sweeping views of the park, and it was just gorgeous. Note though, that since the playground is atop a hill, I highly recommend you wear layers in any season here, and ample sunblock and other protection, such as hats. Another interesting feature was that there were, in fact, Porto-Potties, even in the dead of winter, next to the playground. This is the first park we've visited that has had these in the Twin Cities during winter.

I recommend this park really highly for families or any outdoor lover. After enjoying all that this park has to offer, head over to Cafe Thyme for a beautiful meal together.
