Lenape Park is the perfect spot for a bike ride or hike!
Lenape Park Trail is one of Union County’s best spots for a family bike ride or stroller run. The trail is the main feature in Lenape Park, a 450-acre wildlife reserve area that is also part of the Rahway River Parkway.
The trail is a 2.6-mile out-and-back trail. This means that it is one, long stretch of pathway as opposed to a loop. This means that if you choose to traverse the entirety of the trail, you’ll cover a total distance of 5.2 miles by the time you walk to the end and back.
Those that wish to bike or go stroller running will be happy to know that the entire length of the trail is paved and essentially flat, except for some very minor grades. The pathway is approximately 6 feet wide, making it a good option for even the youngest bikers.
What we love about the trail is that it features excellent tree cover. This not only makes it picturesque but also provides great shade in the hotter summer months. Hikers and bikers will also enjoy seeing a wide variety of animal and birdlife along the trail. The path runs along the banks of both the Rahway River and Nomahegan River, providing yet another scenic feature. Anglers are even allowed to fish along one bank of the river.
Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms available at the park so be sure to go before you leave home.
While there is no playground at Lenape Park, it is connected to the adjacent Nomahegan Park by a footbridge. There you can find play equipment for the kids as well as a restroom!
