If you are staying in Savannah, and the weather is nice, you must ride on the McQueen's Island Trail!
This 6-mile long (one way) biking, hiking and running trail gives you beautiful views of the low country! Also referred to as the Old Savannah - Tybee Island Rail Trail, because it connects Savannah to Tybee Island! Once an old railroad track, the Rails To Trails Conservancy has worked to transform the flat path into a multi-use trail!
If you are located in Savannah, you can pick up the trail by turning off of I-80 where you see the Fort Pulaski National Monument signs. Parking is available but make sure to come early on the weekends! As you ride along the trail, it is seashell packed and very flat. Palm trees line the road and you parallel a causeway, so there is a little bit of noise. But this trail gives you stunning views of the marshes surrounding Savannah and Tybee Island.
This is a perfect option to get everyone moving if you have bigger kids or little kids who can go in a bike seat. Once you are done biking or walking, plan a visit to Tybee Island on the western end if you want to include a beach stop!
