Plan a Day Trip to DC's Family-Friendly Petworth and Park View with your Kids!

In 1852, Georgia Avenue was a plank board road that served as a vital artery into Washington where eventually cars were pulled on rails by horses and, after that, became electrified for travel. Today, Georgia Avenue continues to be a bustling focal point of travel, business, and beautiful residential neighborhoods including the increasingly popular Petworth and Park View.

Petworth and Park View has diversity in population as well as opportunities for family fun. Both neighborhoods work in cooperation to provide excellent goods and services for its inhabitants. It's a place where you can enjoy both the vibrancy of city living and the comfort of tree-lined streets, front porches, and opportunities for leisure and education.

Let's spend a weekend in Petworth and Park View together. You arrive home quickly after work because you're still in the city and Metro is within blocks of your home. The family is eager to enjoy a Friday evening in the outdoors. You may decide to take the kids and the dog for a nice walk through Grant Circle. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the circle provides a variety of shrubs, trees, benches, and open spaces surrounded by churches and charming row homes. Afterward, you take a stroll to thriving Upshur Street for a casual dinner at Cinder for BBQ, Timber for Pizza, or Taqueria del Barrio for Mexican, all with patio seating. Then, satisfy your sweet tooth at Lulubelle's Sweet Shop with handmade candies and delicious ice cream.

On Saturday, it's time for the Petworth Farmer's Market where you can collect all-natural produce, wildflowers, and enjoy the coloring book tent. All of your own garden needs can be addressed at Annie's Hardware, just a block away, with its friendly staff and outdoor gardening section. Adults can get their sweat on at Petworth Crossfit or Yoga Heights but the kids convince you that the outdoor children's pool and playground at the Park View Community Recreation Center is the place to be. Lounging by the water sounds like a great family fun time to you! Just a few blocks away are Walls of Books where you can buy or trade books or enjoy storytime.

On Sunday, you have visitors to the city. There's no need to head downtown for history. You have Lincoln's Cottage in your backyard. Enjoy the grounds, playground, and free museum or take an immersive tour of the home where Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. When you're ready for some games and food, swing by Hook Hall where the kids can occupy themselves with giant Jenga, Connect 4, or corn hole. The parents may decide to indulge in one of the 31 craft beers on tap.

Petworth and Park View have an amazing history but the story continues today. It's a story of diversity, families, and neighbors. You will love being a part of this community and weaving your story into the fabric of the neighborhood.
