For a Great Day out with the Kids head to Georgetown.

Georgetown is known for its shopping, ample eateries, and its waterfront. The neighborhood offers so much more for kids than meets the eye.

Boasting four playgrounds, three swimming options, water sports, and the Capital Crescent Trail, all on our Must-Do list. If you’re seeking an active day with a stroller and sneakers, we recommend the following:

Rose Park is great for big kids and toddlers alike with two separate play spaces, basketball, and tennis courts. It’s also well-shaded, which helps for enjoyment on summer days.

After, check out Baked & Wired for a sweet, or savory, treat and (on Saturday and Sunday) street music. The scones, Persian nectar iced tea, and cupcakes are top-notch! There is also great vegetarian food available at Chaia Taco.

Then head to the waterfront – overlooking the Potomac – to cool off. The spray park is great, but not reliable for when it’s on or not, so be prepared to switch gears. Alternatively, check out the boathouse for paddleboard and canoe rentals, or stroll along the Capital Crescent Trail for a shaded walk or just grab a bite at Farmers Fishers and Bakers while you're down by the water.

Next stop, head to the pool and playground at Volta Park. The pool is not shaded, however, so bring sunscreen and hats!

For a simple, Wisconsin Avenue-centered lunch, we like &Pizza, and there are two wonderful French bakeries, Patisserie Poupon and Boulangerie Christophe with a fabulous upstairs seating area or a grab and go area downstairs with a nice outdoor patio.

After lunch, drop into Pinstripes Bowling if its a rainy day, and, the cherry on top of the sundae, Thomas Sweet is not to be missed for ice cream after!!

Georgetown also offers an array of stores for kid-centric shopping: Gap Kids (often a great sale), delicious treats at Georgetown Cupcake, Little Birdies Boutique for a special occasion purchase and beautiful kids’ shoe selection. If you run out of diapers or wipes, there are two CVS locations on M Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Il Canale and Filomena are both memorable Italian dining experiences in Georgetown.
