Nickel Plate Trail is paved and perfect for hiking, biking, walking, and running.

Nickel Plate Trail is one of the largest trails in Kokomo and runs all the way from Kokomo to Rochester in Fulton County, following along Little Pipe Creek and the abandoned Nickel Plate railroad. This trail is over 40 miles in length, with 22.9 of those miles being in Kokomo itself. It is perfect for all activities, whether it’s walking, biking, jogging, skating, rollerblading, or hiking. The main path is wide and paved, allowing for ease of movement and stroller friendliness. There are volunteers who also regularly clean the trail and ensure that it is safe. As you walk this path, you will find plenty of benches to rest at and plenty of shade, but make sure to bring protection from the sun as there are parts of the path that aren’t shaded. I would also recommend bringing bug spray for the more wooded parts of this trail. This is a point-to-point trail, so there is no risk of getting lost on the way. There is a variety of plants and animals to see, and everywhere you look you will find something new.

In Kokomo, there is plenty of parking for this trail on East County Road 450 North, but there is no public restroom at any part of the trail in Kokomo. The only bathroom available on this trail is in the Peru, Indiana, parking lot, 15 miles from the Kokomo parking lot! Definitely make sure you and the kids use the bathroom before coming to this beautiful trail.
