Make your way to Pixie Trail near Mill Valley for a walk to remember.
This short hillside trail is a great step off-the-beaten path. The entire hike is very family-friendly and has a great uphill detour that gives you epic bay views. Depending on the time of year you'll likely experience lovely wildflowers on your hike. You can also potentially experience a variety of birds and other wildlife. Dogs are common on this path, so if you have a social fur pet, make sure to bring them along, but keep in mind that leashes are expected (and of course, please always clean up after your pet).
The trail definitely makes it's way through residential areas, so you shouldn't expect complete solitude, but the fresh air and unbelievable views are more than memorable enough to justify sharing the path!
Horses are permitted on this trail, and we have come across the occasional mountain biker. We highly recommend a family walk at sunrise or sunset, as captured in the photo, to fully appreciate the loveliness of this trail.
Also, don't expect too many opportunities for shade - there are some wooded areas, but sunscreen, hats and water bottles are recommended especially in high sun. Additionally, strollers are doable, but we highly recommend jogging strollers as your best option.
If you are headed San Francisco bound, it's less than fifteen minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, so it's a great stop to get the wiggles out when heading south. If you are headed north, consider stopping for sweet treats at Johnny Doughnuts in Larkspur (also less than fifteen minutes) or drop in to refuel at Sol Food in San Rafael.
