This old fashioned ice cream shop in Old Town Alexandria scoops delicious and memorable treats that live up to the hype.

Pop's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Company on King Street in Old Town near the waterfront is a favorite stop for local families and tourists alike. Ray "Pop" Giovanni started his career in desserts in the 1940's and he served the favorite flavor of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt when catering events at the White House. The sweet little shop has a large variety of creative flavors and maintains the quaint decor and fun atmosphere the parlor is long remembered for. While Pop is no longer with us, it is well-known he left his recipe book behind.

Grab a cone with your family after lunch at one of the many nearby restaurants, including Chadwick's, a pub style sit-down restaurant that we love for their kid-friendly attitude. If you are looking for something faster, Sweetgreen is just up the street and provides healthy salads and bowls. Eat there, pick up your ice cream, and head a few steps down past the Torpedo Museum to the waterfront for a stroll where there is much to see, or as a reward after completing the Old Town Scavenger Hunt with your family (the map is for purchase for $4 at The Christmas Attic around the corner) or head to Windmill Hill Park for a few fun playground hours. Jones Point Park is a fantastic spot that is also within walking distance where you can enjoy a couple of different playgrounds, history, biking, grassy fields, basketball courts or just a stroll along the river or underneath the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
