The Queens County Farm Museum is an agrarian haven.

A working farm in New York City? Yup, you read that right! Although it requires heading to the outer borough of Queens, this beautiful 47-acre spot is the perfect place to teach visitors, both young and old about life on a country farm. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and quality time outdoors in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Admission is free, but do bring a little cash because feeding the animals is half the fun! If you opt for the reusable bucket, you can bring it back for refills each time your family visits the farm. Then it’s off on a walk along the dusty paths to visit cows, chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, and more. We love stopping to let the animals nibble hay right from our hands.

Make your next stop in the children’s garden a small plot divided into separate planters for each of the five senses. Children will love rubbing soft Lamb’s Ear leaves (yes, that's a plant), nibbling at herbs, and playing hide-and-seek in the wooden gazebo.

The farm also makes its honey from local honeybees, and it’s definitely worth stopping off in the gift shop before leaving to take a jar home or be sure to explore the farmstand in season for fresh herbs and vegetables, which vary by the month. The farmstand is open from early May through early November, from Wednesdays through Sundays. You can also pick up fresh eggs from the farm's heritage breed hens.
