This Playground Wins with its Chicken and Egg Scavenger Hunt

Silver Creek Park playground is a local favorite! Although, it is more commonly called “the chicken park” or “the Nuoci Farm park”…I’m not sure how many people know its actual name. Whatever you call it, your kids will love this playground. The main attractions of Silver Creek Park are the long zipline, whimsical house-like play structure and adorable scavenger hunt.

I recently attended a park planning session and the most requested play equipment was a zipline. There is just something about them that gives kids such a thrill! My oldest loves the play structure because the tall slide is only accessible by older children (or very adventurous littles) as you have to climb a rope net or scale the outside wall to get there.

Most importantly, our family’s favorite feature of Silver Creek Park is a chicken and egg scavenger hunt! There are painted eggs and chickens hidden throughout the entire park, including the sledding hill and walking path, giving a fun reason to explore every inch. Our favorites were the Colorado flag painted chicken and watermelon-colored egg!

I love when children can learn while they play and Silver Creek Park gives them the opportunity to experience some local history. The plot of land was owned by the Nuoci family and home to a poultry farm. There is a plaque at the park entrance along with the historic grain mixer from their farm, noting “one of the region’s largest poultry farms from 1920 to 1978.” The rest of the playground continues with the theme as it has a large chicken with eggs to play on, a tractor bouncer, a wagon seesaw and a running water pump.

Things to Know: There is NO restroom facility available. If you need a stop, we recommend Walmart (745 US-287, Lafayette, CO 80026). There are multiple pavilions though making it the perfect spot to meet friends for a quick playdate.

Want to extend your playtime? Make a reservation at the nearby WOW! (World of Wonders) Children’s Museum! It is the perfect size museum for your littles with a variety of fun exhibits. Also, nearby are some other fantastic playgrounds! Crescent Park in Erie has a seven-piece challenge course and Star Meadows Park (Flatiron Meadows Blvd, Erie, CO 80516) has a space theme complete with a climbable moon!
