Fun for everyone can be found on the over 235 acres at the Simsbury Farms Complex!

Built on a former apple orchard, Simsbury Farms’ 200+ acres has something for everybody in all four seasons, including a playground, swimming pools, and tennis and basketball courts. A golf course, pro shop, and restaurant round out its offerings. There is a paved 2.5-mile fitness trail that goes around the perimeter of the entire complex, with 20 exercise stations spaced out along its length. Bring bikes or scooters!

The playground has some unique features that make it a lot of fun such as a play house and zip line. There is a play structure for younger kids, and a bigger one for older children. There are some picnic tables under a pavilion for shade.

There are a few geocaches scattered throughout the area - my kids and I had a great time looking for them! If you have never geocached, download the app now! Sometimes the only way I can get my kids outside is by enticing them with a “treasure hunt”.

Also on site is the Apple Barn, a venue for conferences and group activities. It hosts summer camps and is available to rent for events. The complex also offers swim and tennis lessons, as well as golf clinics.

Cool off

This is a great spot for summer swimming as the different pools cater to different swimming abilities - there is a small baby/wading pool, a lap pool, a diving pool, and a three-foot pool for those swimmers still working on their strokes. Daily rates are reasonable; season passes are available as well. Rates are lower for Simsbury residents. Get here early - it can get pretty busy on hot summer days.

Winter fun

In the winter, great sledding hills abound. The ice rink operates for 20 weeks out of the year, and has open-skate hours as well as learn-to-skate programs.

Nearby

If all the above hasn’t worn the little ones out, there are some great trails in the vicinity. Check out Great Pond, Massacoe State Forest, and Stratton Brook State Park for some easy, kid-friendly trails (and more geocaching!).

Hall’s Farm sometimes has a farm stand with fresh produce.

I’ve worked up an appetite just writing about all these activities! Ana’s Kitchen has exceptional sandwiches, soups, and other deli fare. Tulmeadow Farm store is just down the street as well, and makes a for a great ice cream stop on a hot summer day.
