A memorable experience for children in Philadelphia at The Academy of Natural Sciences.
With the wide variety of activities available for kids today I have many favorites. The Academy of Natural Sciences has been one of mine for almost 15 years. Dinosaurs are the main draw of the Academy, but what I like best are the many hands-on and interactive experiences available.
Among the 30 dinosaurs on display, a few will be heard to roar (fair warning to prepare the cautious child). The Big Dig is a hands-on, safety glasses on and tools in hand experience excavating fossils. Dioramas present wildlife from Africa, Asia and North America
Outside the discovery center alone may be worth the price of admission. As well as the caged reptiles and water life a large tortoise is often seen roaming. The area is best suited for the 3-8-year-old set.
The butterfly exhibit is magical and docents are usually available to bring your experience to a different level. There are changing exhibits worth checking out on the web.
Kid-friendly food is available in the cafe onsight as well as a good gift shop with educational books and toys.
