The Stanley Hotel Is a Fun and Historical Stop!

If you are a fan of Stephen King, then, like me, you definitely know what movie got its inspiration from the Stanley Hotel….yep, it was The Shining. Well, I love that movie (and the book is even better), but you don't need to be a Stephen King fan to enjoy a visit to this gorgeous historical hotel.

I also happen to be an architecture lover, and this hotel is stunning. Built back in 1909, you'll find both the outside and interior architecture of this historical gem to be spectacular. Hailed as the most luxurious and most beautiful hotel in the area, this is a must-see stop.

While the movie and architecture-lover in me delighted in all these aspects, the real draw for young kids is the beautiful maze outside the front door. We had a blast playing and chasing each other through the maze….it really is a super fun time for families. The hedges are not very high, so it shouldn't be too scary for the little ones. If you're picturing, they're high like a cornfield (like they are in the movie), that's not the case at all. The hedges on the maze are only around two feet high! My oldest is on the autism spectrum, however, so for kids with sensory challenges or anxiety, I recommend having a quick word with them before entering. But for most kids, this maze is simply pure fun!! Even being a little anxious, both my kids wanted to run through the maze over and over.

After enjoying this historical hotel, head into town and have ice cream together at Hayley's Ice Cream Shop!!
