Thomas Reservoir is a perfect place for a day with nature!

Erie is growing quickly with restaurants popping up and continuous house construction, and sometimes you just need somewhere peaceful to go. Thomas Reservoir is that place for me! I have been there many times throughout the year and every time, I feel the calm as I'm surrounded by nature.

Thomas Reservoir is 33 acres with a dirt walking path that goes around the perimeter of the water. In total, the length of the walking path is 0.65 miles. It is great for getting some outdoor exercise or just a nature walk with your kids. We love the huge trees along the path!

Another benefit of Thomas Reservoir is that it allows fishing! This is a great spot to introduce your kids to the sport, and if they aren't into it, they can explore the plants and insects around the water's edge. From Erie's town website, "All fishing is regulated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).  Review their official Fishing Brochure for information on what you can catch, how much you can keep, etc.  Lakes are stocked periodically by the CPW with trout, bass, bluegill, and crappie."

There is a parking lot at the reservoir's entrance as well as portable restrooms. There is also a pavilion with picnic tables (seating 24) and a view of Longs Peak!

While you're in Erie, check out the amazing challenge course style playground at Crescent Park or grab a bite to eat at the Old Mine.
