Toddlers and kids of all ages love Tickle Creek trail because it's flat wide, has lots of water access points to wade in, and lots of bridges.
The whole trail is 1.8 miles one way (3.6 miles round trip) and located in the town of Sandy. It follows the creek and goes over a total of 5 bridges. There are two technical trailheads, but the trail can be accessed from many neighborhoods.
The mixture of crushed gravel and some paved surfaces is designed for bikes, wheelchairs, and strollers, making it great for new walkers or bringing your stroller along. Dogs are welcome, too; city law requires them to be on a leash and for owners to clean up after them. Local residents love to leave painted rocks along the trail, which is fun for the kids to hunt for.
The trail does cross over a few roads if you opt to do the whole 3.6 miles out and back. However, each time you cross a road, the trailhead is either labeled or most obvious once you cross.
The playground along this trail is called Knollwood Park and can be found along Dubarko Road. This section of the trail can be slightly confusing to navigate for the first time. When crossing the last bridge heading east, you'll come to Dubarko road, head east (turn right), and you'll come to the cross streets of Dubarko and Sandy Heights. Once you cross the intersection, the playground will be upon your right. The Tickle Creek trail continues past the playground to the right.
There are no bathrooms or picnic areas along this trail. My son brought his balance bike along this trail. A regular bike would work well too. I wouldn't bring a scooter along because of the gravel/dirt terrain. The trail is great on rainy days because it's heavily forested, so you'll stay somewhat dry but keep an eye on the kids if they run on the bridges as they can get slippery when wet.
There are two main trailheads:
Our favorite spot to park is at Yocum Loop and Dubarko Road. You can use "Tickle Creek Trailhead" in Google Maps. There is plenty of street parking along residential roads. This section of the trail crosses four bridges, and there's a great spot to play in the water. If you walk from the trailhead to the end of bridge four, it is a good turnaround spot, roughly 1.5 miles round trip.
To start from the east end of the trail, you can use "Tickle Creek Trail Trailhead East End" in Google Maps. This parking area has a couple of pull-outs across from some houses. If you start at this trailhead and turn around at the playground, it'll also be roughly 1.5 miles round trip.
