Above the Clouds Play Park (also called Gateway Park) is an old-school wooden castle playground with something for everyone.

If you are staying in Woodland Park or just happen to be passing through driving back to Colorado Springs from the mountains, the Above the Clouds Play Park is the perfect stop to get the wiggles out and it is located in the beautiful mountain town of Woodland Park.

Toddlers will be happy on the smaller part of the playground designed just for them, while big kids can run between castle turrets playing pretend or take on a range of ninja-like activities scattered throughout the playground. There are plenty of slides, secret tunnels and things to climb. There are also several benches around for weary caregivers! My kids' favorite is trying to get from one side of the play park to the other without touching the ground. The little ones need some assistance as the hanging rings are quite high. Little ones will enjoy the sized down play area and a wooden car to crawl around.

There is ample parking in the school parking lot. There are no actual bathrooms but there are port-a-potties. The playground usually has a few families on it but never seems crowded.

The only disadvantage to the playground is its hours. The Above the Clouds Play Park is co-located with the Woodland Park Elementary School and is therefore not available during the school day. You can pop by all summer, on weekends and after school. There is also a large field and basketball courts available when school is out.

It's not uncommon to get a bit of snow here in the winter, and we frequently see deer on the nearby field, so keep your eyes peeled. The playground is open even in the snow, so don't let the weather stop you from getting out and enjoying this special place.
