Enjoy a 3.6-mile loop trail at Allison Park with scenic views of nature and downtown New York City.
You don't have to go far in NYC to get out into nature. That might seem counterintuitive, considering the New York Metropolitan area is the largest in the world. But the tri-state area actually has some phenomenal areas to get out, get some fresh air, and enjoy the outdoors. The Allison Park Loop is one of them!
Just across the Hudson River, Allison Park is a part of the Palisades and sits on top of a cliff giving visitors stunning views of NYC and the George Washington Bridge.
Fun fact: Did you know the George Washington Bridge is the world's only 14-lane bridge!?
Here you can hop on a 3.6-Mile Loop trail that is considered a moderate hike but should be fine for kids who are accustomed to hiking. The trail is partially paved with concrete or stones, while other parts are dirt and rocky. If you hit a trail closed sign on the north end, you can follow the stairs down the left to continue on the trail.
There are a few small waterfalls along the way, which is a fun reward (if you aren't already counting the gorgeous views!) and some great wooded areas you walk through that really make you feel far from the city. There is some traffic noise when you are closer to the highway, but that is to be expected and only a small annoyance until you get further from it.
There is a picnic area along the way as well as a playground, so if you want to stretch the day out, pack a picnic lunch and let the kids take a break on the playground!
As always, check trail conditions before you go and always stay on the path. The Palisades area has some steep cliffs and drop-offs, so be sure to adhere to the signage!
