Allocco is a small, but full park that’s covered in trees and fun to explore.

Entering this park, you’d never know it was just 11 acres. The walking trail travels through a densely wooded area that manages to feel like a magical forest from a fairy tale. (We just love the exposed roots of the various trees!). The park also borders Waackaack Creek, so bring bug spray during the buggier months.

The large, colorful playground starts small (think low to the ground for little kids) with little slides and climbing structures, and gets progressively bigger with a large, fully enclosed slide. The two parts are connected by a tube tunnel that kids can crawl through. The grounds are surrounded by various trees and the space is enclosed by a wood fence, but it’s not secure. Benches and picnic tables dot the area surrounding the playground, perfect for picnicking and keeping an eye on the kids as they play.

Aside from the playground and trails, older kids will likely want to take advantage of the basketball court (nothing fancy, but it’s a solid court with two hoops) and baseball diamond. A small track surrounds the baseball area and tends to attract power walkers. Four laps on this track equal a mile.

Allocco Park is dog-friendly. However, sometimes you’ll encounter off-leash puppers playing fetch in the grassy lawn area so if someone in your party is afraid of dogs be prepared. Currently, the only bathroom in Allocco Park is a porta-potty, so pack the hand sanitizer before you leave for the day.
