Anderson Park is 15 acres, mostly an open meadow where families can play games, throw Frisbees, fly kites, and picnic.
The large grassy space is perfect for whatever activity your kids like to get out that extra energy. On a nice weekend day, the park can be busy but still offers plenty of space and tranquility. It’s next to the Upper Montclair Business District which makes it easy to grab some food or coffee on Bellevue Ave or Valley Rd to enjoy al fresco. Definitely bring sunblock if you’ll be hanging out in the meadow, the only shade is around the perimeter of the park.
The paved pathway around the meadow is stroller and wheel-chair friendly, great for a jog or stroll. It's also dog-friendly so feel free to bring Fido! Around the pathway are pretty trees and sporadic park benches offering shade and a place to rest. It’s a great place to people watch! There are often sports games/practices taking place (lacrosse is a favorite here) and you’re likely to see a yoga class or two. The park has been host to events like art fairs and concerts, keep an eye on the events page of the website to catch anything coming up
A public toilet, located on Parkside, is open from 11 am-7 pm, 7 days a week, April - October.
Bonus: if you're a history buff, the park opened in 1905 and has an interesting history It was designed by the Olmstead brothers. Due to its history, it’s on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
