Anna and Abby’s Yard at Rogers Park in Forest Grove is a magical wooden playground built in memory of two sisters who died nine years ago.
Anna Dieter-Eckerdt, 6, and her sister Abigail Robinson, 11, were hit by a car and killed while playing in a leaf pile outside their home in 2013. To remember the children, this fairy-themed memorial and playground was built thanks the community’s support and the largest private donations in Forest Grove history, and it is open to the public since 2020.
Besides that, during the construction of this fully accessible and inclusive playground, a giant sequoia tree removed from neighbor’s yard in 2018 was turned into pieces to compose Anna & Abby’s Yard layout, fact that also collaborates to make this playground an interesting place to be visited.
Rogers Park, where Anna & Abby’s Yard is located, also has a small parking lot, bathrooms, sports courts (tennis, pickle ball, basketball), and a covered picnic shelter (available on a first-come, first served basis only because of the pandemic). During weekdays and school hours the park is calm and quiet; on weekends it is a little crowded.
Enjoy the day also visiting the historic downtown of Forest Grove, where there are several options for coffee shops and restaurants. Also, during the fall season it is worth visiting the Pacific University campus to see the trees changing colors before winter. All these options are walking distance, or a few minutes by car. For a day adventure, consider visiting Fernhills Wetlands Trail Head and have a dinner at McMenamins Grand Lodge, both in Forest Grove too.
