Horning's Hideout is a private park located 35 minutes west of Portland in North Plains, Oregon.
If you want to spend a day or the weekend in a nice place, Horning's Hideout in North Plains is a gorgeous place to enjoy nature, picnicking, rest, and get some fresh air. It's a dog-friendly campground with a fishing lake (unfortunately, swimming is prohibited), paddle boats, a disc golf course, and an amphitheater.
During the winter, some activities are closed, like camping, fishing, and paddle boats, but you can spend your day hiking and playing disc golf there. All the other options will usually be available for the spring season.
This place also hosts weddings, concerts, and festivals, so it is a good idea to check their website to verify the schedule of upcoming events before planning your visit.
The best things about visiting Horning's Hideout for my daughter are the peacocks and chickens walking around and playing on the old bulldozer and tractor. Luckily, because they are not always available, it is possible to see other farm animals like goats. You may also take a light walk around the lake, and if the time is right, you may watch the fish feeding frenzy when the staff throws fish food in the water.
The general entrance for day use is $5 per person, and they do have a pay station in the parking lot. It takes an exact change or a credit card. For the other available activities, they might have different fees. Bathrooms and portable toilets are available, but no restaurants or cellphone services are available.
