Your family will be excited to explore Anne U. White Trail and want to return soon!
Our favorite, kid-friendly hike in north Boulder, Anne U. White trail, is a 1.7 mile out and back trail that is perfect for your family! My kids beg to go back to this trail over and over again each year. The small parking lot at the trailhead will likely be full, so be sure to come early or during the week when it is not as crowded. As you begin your hike, you meander along Four Mile Canyon Creek that is full in the springtime and often dries up as the summer progressess. The large stepping stones that criss-cross the creek are sure to be your child's favorite on this trail. Have the kids count how many times they cross the creek as they move along the trail. It is a gradual incline to get to the top, where poison ivy has been spotted, so beware. The path is shaded intermittently throughout, however always be sure to pack sunscreen and a hat for the strong Colorado sun.
There are many places along the trail to stop and have a picnic or dip your toes in the water. Pack your snacks, water, and lunch, but be sure to bring all your trash back to the parking lot or home for disposal. As you sit and eat your picnic, observe the wildlife or the flowers blowing in the wind. Bring a nature journal for your kids to draw or write about what they observe.
At the trailhead, you will find some information about the trail as well as porta-potties. If your kids haven't had enough fun for the day after your hike, be sure to visit Dakota Ridge Park in the area. This would also be a great spot to eat your lunch at the shaded picnic tables.
