Baker's Creek Park is the perfect spot to play in the warm months, with a playground and a creek to splash around in.

Located just north of downtown Kannapolis, Baker's Creek Park is a hidden gem. This 40-acre park features a playground, picnic shelters, greenway access, restrooms, basketball, sand volleyball, tennis courts, softball/baseball fields, mini-golf, and natural place space along the creek. The playground has two play structures, ride-on bouncing toys and swings. The large play structure has several slides, ladders, many ways to climb, monkey bars, steps, and a rock-climbing wall. The smaller play structure has a slide, steps, ladder, and interactive play station. The playground is well-shaded in the morning and throughout most of the day. There are several picnic shelters around and one right next to the playground. The restrooms are just a short walk up to the concession stand and baseball field area.

Our favorite part of this park is the natural creek area. This rocky, sandy area is perfect for kids to play in. We spend most of our time here when we visit. You can find the creek just past the greenway and a short walk from the parking lot/ playground area. Bring your lunch or snacks, some water and sand toys, and a towel, and relax by the creek. Bring an extra set of clothes and shoes for after the creek play. We recommend wearing shoes in the creek as we picked up several glass pieces.

During warmer months, be aware of wildlife who use the creek to cool off. With many kids playing and splashing, this tends not to be an issue. There are several spots to sit to see the kids play along the creek. The area is pretty well shaded, but put some sunscreen on if you plan to stay for a while. This spot is just so fun, and kids love it.

The athletic areas are all for public use, and equipment rental can be purchased at the concession stand. The concession stand is cash only and is open from mid-March to late October. Opening times are Monday - Friday 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Saturdays 9:00 am - 8:30 pm, and Sundays 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

There is access to the Baker's Creek Greenway, part of the Carolina Thread Trail. The 1.5 mile Baker's Creek Greenway runs through Baker's Creek Park and connects to the 8th Street Greenway with Baker's Creek Park and the Village Park.

Baker's Creek Park is a fantastic little park. Check it out for your next family adventure.
