A passive preserve on the steep bluffs above Pensacola Bay, Pensacola Bay Bluffs Park protects 26 acres of largely sloped landscape.
This park is very fun! There is a long and steep wooden staircase that has a ton of steps. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair accessibility. But when you eventually get to the end of the stairs, you’ll come down a dirt path that takes you to these train tracks and to Escambia Bay. A passive preserve on the steep bluffs above Pensacola Bay, Pensacola Bay Bluffs Park protects 26 acres of largely sloped landscape. The trail between the Bay Bluffs Park trailhead at Summit Blvd and the southern trailhead is less than a half-mile long. It’s mostly a boardwalk, but what a boardwalk!
Pensacola Bay Bluffs Park and nature preserve feature red clay bay bluffs that are a unique geological feature in Florida. The bluffs represent the highest point along the entire coastline of Florida! Local insider tip: after you hike the boardwalk (0.8 miles), get off and go hike the nature trails to get up close to the bluff cliffs. Caught up in a dense forest of live oaks, it zigzags up and down the steep slope, with long staircases, straightaways, and steps to drop you down into the forest so you can duck through it, cross the railroad tracks, and head for the tiny beach along the bay. In the warm weather, there are lots of bugs and mosquitos. Be prepared.
Walking the entire route, you can tally 0.8 miles with quite a workout up and down the staircases. Dogs are permitted on a leash and further down by the water, there is a dog park.
Unfortunately, there is distasteful graffiti along the boardwalks that are NOT family-friendly.
