Boardwalk Trail in the Swamp in Madison, Alabama
Beaver Dam Nature Trail is located in Madison, AL. The trail is a smooth gravel and boardwalk walking path. It is immersed in the wetland area and is a huge hotspot for Swamp Tupelos. Swamp Tupelos are trees that can grow in flooded areas all the time. It's really neat to see. You can walk or run here, but the trail is only a little over a mile long. I suggest this place for families or if you are in the area. Bringing a stroller is a nice idea and it will be effective here because the terrain is suitable. Kids will find this hike manageable and are less likely to lose attention due to the awesome surroundings. The hike is manageable for all abilities.
The Beaver Dam Trail is part of the North Alabama Birding Trail. If you get lucky you might see a cool bird. There are benches at the end of the trail for sitting and viewing the pond. The trail runs next to the Beaver Dam Creek and you can get a glimpse of it from the trail. You can bring pets but they must be on a leash for your safety and all the water. The trail is part of the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. You can see a nice amount of interesting trees, plants, and other wildlife. The trail is easy to follow. The entrance is literally a dead-end of Old Highway 20. Have fun and definitely bring a camera or a phone to snap some pictures!
