The Bluemont park has a sand pit, swings, creek, disk golf, and a playground shaped like a train!
Check out this playground shaped like a train at Bluemont Park! It has an older kid section with slides, monkey bars, and swings put together to look like a train and a younger kid section with playhouses and a sandpit. The park is tucked away from busy streets in a green, wooded area next to the bike trail. The creek is a great place to splash around during the summer and access to the Washington and Old Dominion Trail makes family bike rides convenient options for travel and exercise. The park has a tennis court, seating area, and water fountain as well.
Make sure to bring bug spray if you’re traveling in the summer months because there tend to be mosquitoes, as well as a water bottle for the heat. Many kids also bring butterfly nets to try and catch minnows and fish in the creek. There are disk golf nets around the park in case you wanted to play a game of frisbee as well. I recommend bringing chalk to draw on the pavement there. There is often lots of art on the bike train of hopscotch patterns and doodles from the kids playing there.
Because the park is rather secluded inside a neighborhood, parking is rather tricky if you’ve never been there before. There is parking close to the park but you need to take a bit of a detour to get there. If you’re coming off of Wilson Blvd you’ll see parking for the tennis court but you’ll want to go past it because there is closer parking further down the street. Follow north Manchester street and take a right onto 5th road north. Take a left onto north Montague street, left on 4th street north and you should see access to the parking lot on the corner of 4th street north and north Manchester street.
