Burnside Farms is a beautiful Flower Farm for Seasonal Pick Your Own!
Located in Prince William County VA, Burnside Farms is a family-run flower farm where you can pick your own tulips in the spring (usually mid-April depending on the weather) and sunflowers in the summer (usually mid-July).
As you approach the farm, you’ll see flowers lining the entry path but resist picking these if you can, as the main fields have the most variety. Along this path, we also found a giant yellow clog that my kids enjoyed climbing in and on. After you reach the admissions stand, you can either enter the play area or go on to the glorious flower fields. When we visited, the farm recommended that we go to the play area first before picking, so our flowers would stay fresher for longer.
We heeded their advice and my kids (4 and 6) had a blast checking out the play area. There’s a colorful tire playground, an old train kids can explore, basketball nets set up inside a grain silo, huge inflatable trampolines, and—probably the biggest attraction of all—a giant inflatable slide that my kids went down no less than a dozen times each. This area also has picnic tables, where we refueled with a snack, porta-potties, and chickens! On this note, they were allowing dogs when we visited in Spring 2021, but apparently, the chickens were getting spooked so definitely check with the farm before you bring your pooch.
After the play area, it was on to the beautiful flower fields! For the tulips in April 2021, each adult ticket included 10 flowers. You paid an additional $1 per additional flower and an additional $1 on top of that per bulb (you have an option to pick without the bulb or remove it). There were so many varieties that my kids were each able to pick a lot in their various favorite colors! We ended up taking about 10 additional flowers home, which we wrapped up before leaving. The tulips brightened up our home and served as a memory of this fun day for about a week.
