Canterbury is a peaceful park with fenced in playground, walking/jogging track, sledding hill, basketball, and tennis courts.
Canterbury Park is a hidden gem in Montclair, it is well maintained and offers a lot but doesn’t get the crowds as some of the other well-known parks. There’s a lot of grassy area and a decent-sized hill for kids who love to run around (or sled in the winter), play Frisbee, or throw a ball around. It’s also great for a family picnic. There’s a nice walking/jogging track that circles around an exercise area with mini-workout stations. You’ll often see people here working out with trainers. Also available are tennis courts and a basketball court, just show up with your own equipment and play.
The playground is totally fenced in and offers two play areas for different age groups, good for 2-12 years old. There are a lot of trees around the perimeter offering various amounts of shade throughout the day. We love bouncing back and forth on the horse, duck, and zebra spring riders that we don’t always see at other playgrounds. There are a lot of slides to choose from including a double and a triple slide, perfect for family races. And the smaller play structure has a “really cool bridge.” The ground is wood chip but doesn’t seem to get too muddy after it rains. There are also two swing sets, one for bigger kids and one for babies/toddlers.
Only street parking is available, make sure you follow the parking signs so you don’t get a ticket. There is no bathroom or water fountains.
