Carillon is a beautiful shaded Playground for 2 to 5-year-olds behind Byrd Park!
What a sweet find! This playground is a well-kept, clean, and tucked away from the street. It’s never been too crowded when we’ve visited for playing on the pretty new equipment. Here you can enjoy swings, climbing equipment, seesaws, springy rides, and much more. The best part is that almost everything is shaded by the surrounding trees, so the gear and seating remain cool even on hot days. There is plenty of shade and seating for the parents to keep cool. This is a small playground and good for the younger toddlers; 4 years and up will probably get bored after 30 minutes of trying everything out. My two 4-year-olds liked dropping by here after a morning on the bike and hiking trails around the river. We packed a lunch and caught our breath under the trees before another round of play.
If you’re like us, you’ll love the simplicity and natural beauty of this playground. There are just a few options for play but enough to explore in one stop. The beautifully natural scenery provides a relaxing setting for meeting new friends or escaping city life. The toys and play area are the perfect size for infants and toddlers to explore. There’s a large tree close by that my two loves climbing on and making into their “tree house”.
There aren’t restrooms available close by so prepare yourself for that. I guess if you were desperate you could walk to use some port-o-potties near the Carillon and Barker Field. Hopefully, the Carillon restrooms will open up this summer 2021! if during working hours and someone’s on site. Considering there’s a lot of shade, the equipment takes a little longer to dry out after storms and in the morning. Make sure to bring your bug spray in the hot months and possibly sunscreen (we didn’t need it). There is sufficient parking along the street. You won’t have a problem finding a place close by since it’s not highly populated. If you stand in just the right spot you can see the other park features including Carillon, Barker Field, and Amphitheater. After our playground and lunch time, we ventured to a nearby stage that ended up being right behind the Carillon.
