Cheer on the local hockey team, the Charlotte Checkers!

The Charlotte Checkers Hockey team calls the Bojangles Coliseum home. The Checkers are a minor league team that plays from around October through April. Going to a hockey game is just a ton of fun for the whole family. Chubby, the polar bear,  is the official mascot and kids love him. You can find him around town at special events, at schools, and businesses too.

They do theme nights like Throwback week, where tickets are $1.25 one night. Other theme nights include the $1 concession stand night, Country Music Night, College Night, Family Night, 80's Night, and more. These nights tend to have discount tickets, concessions, or prizes.

Since the games are in the Bojangles Coliseum, the concession stands feature Bojangles meals plus popcorn, hot dogs, ice cream, funnel cakes, sodas, beer, and more.

Check out the Charlotte Checkers for a night of fun for the family. You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram @checkershockey for all the latest updates and happenings.

Tips and tricks for visits with young kids:

1. Bring earplugs or ear coverings. It's loud and has lots of lights. If you have a child who is sensitive to everything, this might not be a good choice. We have one who did well with ear coverings for the loud times.
2. Eat before going. Concession stand prices aren't bad, but eating beforehand can save you money. We buy treats for the kids.
3. 7 pm games end around 10:30 pm. If you have more rigid bedtimes, this may be too late of an end time. They do have afternoon games on the weekends sometimes.
4. Check out games early in the season for discount nights to score on great seats.
