Perfect hike to go as short or far as you want while enjoying the beautiful scenery along the Coal Creek Trail.
Located in Louisville, Colorado, Coal Creek Trail is a 14-mile east community connection trail. The trail connects Colton Trailhead, Flagg Park, Harley-Lastoka, and Rock Creek Trail. The trail parallels Coal Creek from 66th Street in Superior to Erie. This natural soft surface is perfect for hiking, running, biking, and jogging stroller-friendly. It is mostly open with some shady spots along the way. There is a variety of terrains with meadows, forests, and urban spaces.
During the summer it can get a bit warm but go early or later in the day. During the winter, the trail can become icy and packed with snow, however it makes a great spot to snowshoe or cross country ski. As the snow melts or rainy days, there are some spots that can get pretty muddy and impassable. There are restrooms at several trailheads. In town, you can pick up the trail which makes it a perfect coffee hike. Grab your local Java en route and bring the family for a great morning hike. You can simply go as far as you want on the trail. Make sure to always practice Leave No Trace techniques and pack your trash and food off the trail. Look up the trail map before heading out as signage can be limited and kind of confusing in places.
To make a super long run or bike, the Coal Creek Trail connects to the Rock Creek Trail (12 miles) to make a loop.
Coal Creek Trail is great for the whole family to enjoy. Check it out for your next family outdoor adventure.
