A perfect summer park to cool off at!
Located near the Villa Heights community area of Charlotte, this neighborhood park features a recently updated playground, basketball court, outdoor swimming pool, and walking trail. The playground is near the parking lot and has two play structures as well as swings. The smaller structure is perfect for preschoolers and has several slides. The larger playground has several slides and various climbing obstacles. Some rock structures are scattered around the playground for climbing as well as a pretend log tunnel. Mature trees cover a majority of the playground, which is perfect for those hot summer days. The large outdoor pool and a covered spray ground is in the lower section of the park. The spray ground is only one of five you can find here in Charlotte. The outdoor pool has lanes for swimming and a play structure with two slides that go right into the pool. The pool area is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and admission is only $1 per person all summer long. A covered picnic table looks over the greenway and pool area.
The Little Sugar Creek Greenway passes through this park. This section of the greenway connects you from 12 Street/Alexander Street Park and Cordelia Park. This section of the greenway is just under a mile and follows along the creek. Keep an eye out in the water and you will find the Gulf Coast spiny softshell turtles. This species is of great concern in the North Carolina region. If you do see them, just observe as they are known to bite, and as a rule of thumb, just look at wildlife, don’t touch. Little Sugar Creek Greenway is paved and perfect for running, walking, or riding a bike.
Another cool feature is a community garden. Have a green thumb but don't have space at home? Try it out!. For more information, call (704) 336-3367.
An indoor pavilion is available to rent for special occasions, celebrations, or gatherings. The pavilion can hold up to 70 people and has lights, water, electricity, restrooms, air conditioning, heat, a sink, a refrigerator, and a television. A small deck area on the backside of the pavilion offers some outdoor space and a view of the pool area.
Once you’re done hanging out at the park, head up the street to the NODA area for breweries, eats, and treats.
