Croton Point Park is a beautiful green space along the Hudson River that’s perfect for hiking, camping and swimming.

Croton Point Park is a lush, 500 acres spanning the eastern shore of the Hudson River. Open year-round, visitors come to enjoy swimming — there’s a beach area, hiking, lovely walking trails, both tent and RV camping, as well as cabin rentals, cross-country skiing, fishing and more. The park is wheelchair accessible and leashed pets are welcome, but they are not allowed in cabins or buildings. Two playgrounds are also onsite.

Whether you’re looking to spend a few hours, the entire day or the whole weekend here, Croton Point Park has a lot of adventure — and relaxation — to offer families and kids of all ages. Vast stretches of well-maintained grass are perfect for frisbees, lounging and biking.

Hikers can explore the four miles of Hudson River shoreline. Routes are pretty mild with only slight hills, suitable for even young kids. The trails are good for bikes and joggers too! Wildlife lovers should be on the lookout for the Bald Eagles who visit the park each winter.

Little ones looking to learn about local plants and wildlife will enjoy a visit to the onsite nature center (which also provides clean bathrooms during daytime hours). Exhibits focus on Hudson River flora and fauna as well as Native American history and hands-on activities. The peninsula on which the park is located was home to Native Americans, including the Kitchawank tribe, dating back more than 7,000 years ago. Maps are also available. The nature center is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 am-4 pm.

The park can get busy and fishing is quite popular, but it rarely feels too crowded. In non-pandemic times, grills are available for BBQs. But picnic spots can be found in abundance any day of the week.

Though a Westchester County Park Pass is not required for admission, parking and rental fees differ for those without a pass (daily parking is $5 with a pass; $10 without).

If you’re looking to camp, reservations are absolutely recommended (call 914.862.5290). Winter camping, if that’s your thing, is available in select RV sites. Stand-alone bathrooms are open from mid-April through October during regular park hours. During the off-season, it’s porta-potties only.

If you're craving a bite to eat after a day of adventuring, Croton Colonial Restaurant & Diner is less than a five-minute drive away and is an absolute kid-pleaser. Think all-day pancakes and nostalgic diner feels.
